Safe and Soothing: What to Expect from a Pregnancy Massage with Emma’s Antenatal
Pregnancy is a time of incredible change, both physically and emotionally, and self-care becomes more important than ever.
A pregnancy massage can be a wonderful way to relieve discomfort, promote relaxation, and connect with your changing body.
At Emma’s Antenatal, we take great care to ensure that every massage is tailored to your needs, safe for you and your baby, and an experience you can fully enjoy.
Here’s what you can expect when you book a pregnancy massage with me….
Safety First: A Massage You Can Trust
Your safety and comfort are my top priorities. As a qualified and insured therapist with over 20 years of experience (including 3 years specializing in pregnancy massage), I have the knowledge and expertise to provide treatments that are both effective and safe.
Before the massage begins, we’ll have a 30-minute consultation to go over your medical history, pregnancy details, and any specific symptoms or concerns you may have. This consultation helps me tailor the session to your needs and ensures you feel comfortable and confident throughout.
I also adhere to strict guidelines when it comes to contraindications. If you have certain medical conditions, such as high blood pressure, preeclampsia, or a history of thrombosis, I may recommend consulting your healthcare provider before proceeding.
What’s Included in a Pregnancy Massage
Every pregnancy massage is designed to be as soothing and convenient as possible. As a mobile service, I come to your home, bringing everything needed to create a relaxing environment, including:
A massage bed for full-body treatments or the option for reflexology from your sofa.
Organic, high-grade linen sheets and towels to ensure your comfort and modesty throughout the session.
A selection of safe, gentle aromatherapy oil blends to ease symptoms like nausea, swelling, tiredness, insomnia, and restless legs—or the option to use plain organic oil if you prefer no scent.
Music to set the mood and help you unwind completely.
By using only organic, high-quality products, I aim to provide the most luxurious and nurturing experience possible.
Pregnancy Yoga and Positioning Advice
As a pregnancy yoga and Spinning Babies practitioner, I can also offer advice on lifestyle adjustments and specific movements to relieve discomfort and encourage your baby to settle into an optimal position for birth.
Certain techniques can help your baby move into a head-down, left occiput anterior position, which is often ideal for a smoother labor. These movements can help avoid a back-to-back position, reducing potential challenges during delivery. Even simple practices to relieve tension in the pelvis and lower back can make a significant difference in your comfort and baby’s positioning.
Whether it’s addressing discomfort or preparing for a calm and confident birth, my sessions combine massage with tailored guidance to support your well-being.
Comfortable and Supportive Positioning
During your massage, you’ll be positioned in a way that prioritizes your comfort and safety. Most clients find the side-lying position or semi-reclined positioning to be ideal, but we can also use a birth ball or explore other options that work best for you.
By ensuring that your body is well-supported, we can relieve tension without adding any unnecessary strain.
Before and After Your Massage
Before Your Massage:
Avoid eating a heavy meal; opt for something light a couple of hours before to prevent nausea.
Wear comfortable clothing that’s easy to remove or adjust for the massage.
Prepare a quiet, cozy space where you’ll feel most relaxed.
After Your Massage:
Drink plenty of fresh water to flush out toxins. I’ll have spring water ready for you.
Gentle stretching and movements can help prevent soreness; I’ll show you some simple, safe stretches to practice.
Be mindful that your muscles may feel tender for a day or two, which is completely normal.
Integrated Hypnotherapy for Extra Relaxation
In addition to massage, I am trained in hypnotherapy for birth, which can be seamlessly integrated into your session. This added element can help you feel even more relaxed and mentally prepared for labor. Whether you’re dealing with stress, insomnia, or simply want to connect with your baby on a deeper level, hypnotherapy can enhance your experience.
A Holistic Approach to Pregnancy Care
At Emma’s Antenatal, my pregnancy massage services are about more than just physical relief—they’re an opportunity to nurture your body and mind during this special time.
With the one-to-one support I provide, you’ll have the chance to talk openly with another woman who understands the process of birth and the emotions that come with it. Sometimes, having a listening ear and the space to share your thoughts and feelings can be just as therapeutic as the massage itself.
From easing discomfort to fostering relaxation and confidence, every aspect of your session is designed with your well-being in mind.
